What’s your connection to the MidCoast and Taree?
I have lived on the Mid North Coast for nearly 30 years and have had the opportunity to raise a family in the beautiful Manning Valley. My children and grandchildren have been born here and the connection to education, health and community is something I enjoy. I currently work in both paid and unpaid roles in this area and feel grateful to be a part of a community that values individuals and families.
What does First Steps Count mean to you?
First Steps Count is a place where intergenerational relationships can be nurtured and supported as our community grows and changes. It is integral in supporting those needing a safe environment and an advocate for children and families within the Manning. It also provides encouragement and inclusivity to new parents, grandparents, those without a network, and those continuing in a caring role for following generations. This is where my involvement in First Steps Count provides purpose and allows me to give back to a wider community.
What does success look like for you here at First Steps Count?
Success for First Steps Count is both measurable and difficult to determine. As a board, there is success in financial viability, governance compliance, retaining excellent staff and long term feasibility – all necessary elements to support the ongoing services. However success is also found in the feedback we receive, the people and families staff have encouraged, the welcoming environment and the willingness of the community to recognise the significant contribution First Step Count make to the community.
