Help us Launch our Learning Club Pilot Program

Your donation will support our Term 4 pilot program for our Learning Club, targeting the core skills of primary school students in our community. 

Education is one of the most powerful ways to break the cycle of disadvantage.

We’re launching a much-requested after school support program, to support our local primary school children in strengthening their fundamental learning skills. Here’s what it looks like:

  • Runs for the duration of Term 4, 2026

  • literacy-focused

  • deliberately small groups

  • targeting Years 1 – 2 and Years 3 - 4.

This pilot starts with vocabulary and conversation, taking the pressure off reading and writing early on. Building children’s confidence to talk, ask questions and be understood lays the groundwork; the reading and writing follow more easily once that foundation is there. Our hope is that this pilot will become a key, ongoing service provided right here at First Steps Count.

We’re looking to partner with businesses and individuals who believe in helping our children build strong foundations for their education.

Goal: $5,000

Your support covers materials, coordination, staffing and the little extras that make the program feel warm and welcoming, not just another after-school program.

  • Yes, all donations to First Steps Count are tax deductible. First Steps Count Incorporated is a registered charity with deductible gift recipient (DGR1) status.

  • Your support covers resources for the children, staff coordination, and those small touches that ensure the environment feels welcoming and safe.

    We're aiming to raise $5,000 to fully fund the pilot, ensuring it runs smoothly for the entirety of Term 4, 2026.

  • Rather than relying on standardised academic testing (which schools already manage) we will focus on confidence.

    We'll check in with both children and parents at the start and finish of the term to see how much more assured the kids feel in their abilities.

    We believe that a child who believes they can learn is far more likely to succeed in the long run.

  • The pilot will proceed regardless. However, meeting the $5,000 goal ensures we can deliver the highest quality experience and increases our chances of securing the program as a permanent fixture at the Hub. Every dollar brings us closer to making this a lasting service.

  • We envision this pilot evolving into a core, ongoing service. The feedback and data gathered during this Term will guide us in refining the offering, helping us build the evidence needed to make the Learning Club a staple of our Hub for years to come.
