Community Spirit Shines at First Steps Count Celebration

A heartwarming celebration unfolded at the First Steps Count Child and Community Centre in Taree, as locals gathered over afternoon tea to honour the generosity of District 44 Masonic Charities and the vibrant community spirit that continues to shape the region.

FSC welcomed volunteers from Shop 44—a beloved charity op-shop in Taree that reinvests every dollar of profit back into the community.

The event welcomed volunteers from Shop 44—a beloved charity op-shop in Taree that reinvests every dollar of profit back into the community—offering them a chance to experience the welcoming space of First Steps Count.

A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of a $20,000 donation by Wal Riley to FSC Director Clare Brennan. This generous contribution will directly support program initiatives at FSC expanding the Centre’s women’s art group. One exciting project on the horizon is the creation of a community cookbook, featuring recipes inspired by produce grown in FSC’s family garden program—a beautiful blend of creativity, culture, and connection.

This latest donation builds on District 44 Masonic Charities’ earlier support, which helped fund the construction of FSC’s community kitchen. The kitchen now serves as a central gathering space for families, volunteers, and Centre users, fostering shared experiences and strengthening social ties.

The event also spotlighted the growing momentum of the Friends of FSC initiative—a new way for locals to get involved, lend their support, and become part of a thriving, community-led movement. Whether through volunteering, donations, or simply spreading the word, there’s a place for everyone in the FSC story.
