What’s your connection to the MidCoast / Taree?
In 1982, my husband and I moved from Europe to Taree, where our family had previously settled in the 1950s. I was unable to continue my work as an emergency nurse in Australia, and my career ultimately led me to work in various industries. Approximately 18 years ago, I began working in the volunteer sector, managing multiple programs. I am very fortunate to work with so many kind and generous people over the years. The Manning Valley was a great place to raise my children, and each time I show our overseas visitors around, I reset myself and appreciate the beauty of this area and how much it has to offer - it is somewhat of a hidden gem!
What does First Steps Count mean to you?
First Steps Count is a place you need to visit because it can't be fully understood without experiencing it firsthand. It is a beautiful building that already tells a story on its own. The concept of what it means for children and families to feel welcome in a safe environment is evident everywhere. It is a unique place, and who would not want to be part of that!
What does success look like for you here at First Steps Count?
First Steps Count is already successful in its own right. This is very evident in the feedback from families, the happy faces of the children who visit, and the highly positive feedback from corporate clients who visit the centre for programs or venue hire. So, continued success means that financial investments and support will come on board, enabling First Steps Count to continue growing and providing what is essential to the community, while welcoming many more people who can enjoy the space.
