What’s your connection to the MidCoast / Taree?
I have been visiting the area for over 20 years as my partner’s family have long and deep connections with Taree and the Mid Coast. Since retiring three years ago I have since built a house and moved here and now feel very fortunate to live on this beautiful Biripi land.
What does First Steps Count mean to you?
My previous work as Director of Early Intervention and Prevention at the then Department of Community Services embedded the importance of supporting families and children early in their life. So, I was extremely excited to see that First Steps Count was making the Community Hub model a reality, as well as seeing a true partnership approach with families and other organisations operating in practice. I find it deeply satisfying to be part of this exceptional and unique community led project. It is a privilege to contribute my time and energy towards building a stronger Taree community, by supporting local families and children to thrive as well as helping them address any challenges.
What does success look like for you here at First Steps Count?
I want First Steps Count to be able to continue to provide an accessible, nurturing environment where families feel respected, valued, and welcome. Offering a space that not only supports children but also provides a sense of belonging for everyone who enters. Success for me is where our families feel a greater sense of connection to their local community and are confident in knowing where, how, and when to access the right support when faced with challenges. Supporting our families and children to reach their full potential will enable them to be strong, resilient, and productive members of the community.
